Manterfly Youth Development

This was a flier created for Manterfly Youth Development in Richmond, Virginia. The flier was created to help promote their Annual Fundraising Cookout that they have to help attain more donations to support their cause. Manterfly is a nonprofit organization that strives to ensure that at-risk youth have the opportunity to reach their full potential and become productive members of society.  We strive to break the negative cycles of poverty, violence, substance abuse, incarceration and early pregnancy that plague many of our communities. They are a nonprofit that I had the pleasure of working with during a social media class that I took while at Virginia Commonwealth University. For this class, I worked with three Iraqi students, as well as a graduate student at VCU, to help Manterfly come up with a social media campaign that would hopefully not only teach the organization about the use of social media, but also help them extend their presence in the Richmond community.

Logo design

I created this for my sister, who likes to do a lot of cooking, crafting, knitting, crocheting, type of stuff. She likes coming up with new ideas as much as I do. Hers are more fabric-y type of ideas, and cooking ideas, while mine tend to be artistic, graphic design, photography, pen to paper and drawing, type of ideas. So now, hopefully, she'll have a tag/logo to go with her stuff.

Seven Hills Press Release

Making use of InDesign, I came up with a press release for Seven Hills, a middle school for boys in Richmond, Virginia. We were to come up with a fictional event, and write a press release for it. I tried to include as much information as I could in the press release, but ended up running out of space, so it is not as detailed as I'd like it to be. Because I saved it as a pdf

if this doesn't show up on the link, let me know

Green Project

I tried to lay these out in order of how they were thought up. The first one thought up is the one that looks extremely like a laptop, and then right for the next one. This was a green project with the objective to help promote an object that was seen as "green" or environmentally friendly. I chose Asus' bamboo laptop, and decided to explore the element of bamboo a little bit further. Another thing that we had to do was use a graphic designer/artist for inspiration for our poster. My inspiration was drawn from a graphic artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Pablo Alfieri. Looking over various projects he had done, I used his inspiration of typography and making use of basic shapes, as well as vivid coloration, to help with my design, especially for the Asus logo. I changed the Asus logo and used the coloring of bamboo leaves, and the bamboo used for the laptop to build a new logo. Also I made use of the elements of nature to help with the typography, expressing Asus' slogan for their laptop "Inspired by nature. Designed for style," choosing to ignore their other saying "Go Bamboo."

this is the final piece which was turned in.

Short projects using InDesign

This was a newspaper front that we had to do to help us get used to Adobe InDesign. Having previous experience with Adobe Pagemaker, as well as designing newspaper fronts, I used that to my advantage. I decided to give the paper a catchy name as well as a tag to go with it, and borrowed some news stories from the internet to help act as filler, but were still related to the topic of electronics. This was mainly used to help hone down our design skills and help to get used to design programs.

A lack of postings

I haven't been very proactive with publishing things on this. But it is a busy time of year, so I promise that once things calm down a bit, I will publish everything on here, so that everyone can view them.
There's a couple of different projects that need to be put up here. And if anyone has any requests for a review of a certain advertisement, please, feel free to say so. Let me know what advertisement it is *date/month, country, who's it for, medium* and I'll look it up and review it.

PR Event for FIRST Contractors

Because I turned the copy I had over to FIRST for Create-Athon onCampus, I don't have an exact duplicate of the idea that I had come up with. However, I do have a basic idea of what was thought up.
My part was "paint-a-plank day" where they would have an event at Maymont, or Carytown, and then people could buy a plank of wood to be used in the building process, and they could decorate their plank however they wanted, before donating it back to FIRST Contractors to be used in the building process. That way it's interactive, as well as a way to connect with and give back to society, even if it's in a smaller way.

This was an email campaign for VCU in order to get recent graduates (within 12 mos.) to donate to VCU's general fund.

Updates

I haven't updated this in almost two months. I've been careless with keeping this up to date. But I've also been hard at work with a lot of projects. So to keep everyone informed on what I'm doing I'll make sure I put my projects up for everyone to see. Feel free to critique any and all of them as you wish.

Australia Post- Reach out and touch someone

This is an excellent advertisement in my opinion. The concept is clear, "if you're going to reach out, do it in a letter". Also, the image that goes along with this is amazing in my opinion. A girl simply hugging a portrayal of a person which is a letter, or a person blending into the background that is a letter. It helps to convey the concept even more, making this advertisement even more brilliant. I think that if this were not just a print ad, but one that was on a building or out in public, that would help even more. It would be a little weird, yes, having someone embrace you like that in public, but it would still be an amazing advertisement technique.
